Initially, Everest Base Camp Heli Trek begins with a four-and-half-hour drive from the capital city, Kathmandu, to Manthali Airport, Ramechhap. Once we arrive at Ramechhap, we will take a hair-raising flight to Lukla Airport. Later, we begin the trek from Lukla through the forested trail alongside the Dudh Koshi River towards Phakding village. On the next day, we gradually make our way to the famous Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar.
Along the way, we walk through the trail alongside the river amid Himalayan pine and cedar trees. Later, we enter the Sagarmatha National Park and continue walking past several villages to reach Namche Bazaar. On the acclimatization day, we go for a short hike to the Tenzing Norgay Memorial and/or to Everest View Hotel to relish the marvelous view of the mountains. After that, we trek towards Tengboche village, where we visit the Khumbu’s largest monastery.
This village also rewards us with the breathtaking spectacles of Ama Dablam, Mt. Everest, and other surrounding peaks. Before heading further towards Everest Base Camp, we make a stop to the village of Dingboche. Once we go higher, we will feel the thin air. Further, we climb the uphill on a rocky terrain to Lobuche, a tiny settlement that lies right next to the Khumbu Glacier. On the next day, we climb through the steep path toward Gorak Shep and continue walking until we reach the Everest Base Camp. After relishing the marvelous mountain views at the base of Everest, we return to Gorak Shep for the overnight stay.
The next morning, we hike up to the most popular viewpoint at Kala Patthar. This remarkable vantage point offers a 360-degree panorama of some of the highest pinnacles in the world. We retrace our route back to Gorak Shep, where we catch our helicopter ride, and fly over the mountains to Kathmandu.
(September to November) and spring (March to May) are regarded as the two best seasons to visit Nepal — and Everest Base Camp Heli Trek is no exception. During these seasons, the sky often remains nice and clear, which allows you to witness the outstanding glimpse of the mountains. Besides, the weather also stays moderate and stable, which is perfect for trekking long hours in the Himalayas. In the winter (December to February), the weather gets extremely cold, and the trail to Everest Base Camp is often covered in snow. Therefore, it is challenging to go trekking to Everest during this season. During the monsoon season (June to August), the trails are usually wet and slippery because of rain. The sky also remains cloudy, covering the mountain views.
